Annalena Bilsini is apparently the least Sardinian of Grazia Deledda’s novels as it is not set in Sardinia; on the contrary, it shares different themes with other works by the Nobel Prize-winning writer, in particular the presence of a strong, resolute female protagonist, who is able to take the reins of the family after the death of the spouse. The focus, however, will revolve around the possibility of reading the novel in the light of some recent studies of ecocriticism: respect for the Earth, for the rhythms of Nature, for the trees, guardians of the house. Thanks to a special anticipatory eye, Deledda highlights the need to find harmony between human feelings and Nature.

Annalena Bilsini, apparentemente il meno sardo dei romanzi di Grazia Deledda in quanto non ambientato in Sardegna, condivide con altre opere della scrittrice Premio Nobel diverse tematiche, in particolare la presenza di una protagonista femminile forte, risoluta, in grado di prendere le redini della famiglia dopo la scomparsa del coniuge. Il focus però verterà attorno alla possibilità di leggere l’opera alla luce dei recenti studi di ecologia letteraria: il rispetto per la terra, per i ritmi della Natura, per gli alberi, custodi e guardiani della casa, evidenziano, in anticipo sui tempi, la necessità di trovare sintonia tra i sentimenti umani e la Natura.
