Sulle riscritture multimediali dell’«Orlando Furioso» di Italo Calvino. In appendice le tre puntate disperse del programma radiofonico (1968)

Beginning in 1967, Italo Calvino edited the radio adaptation of Ludovico Ariosto’s Orlando Furioso. The project resulted in twenty-five episodes broadcast on RAI’s National Program in 1968, the release in 1967 of a set of records featuring readings from the cantos accompanied by a libretto, and, finally, in the reworking of this material into the 1970 volume Orlando Furioso di Ludovico Ariosto raccontato da Italo Calvino. This article reconstructs the relationships among the various textual forms of the project – written and oral, published, recorded, and broadcast – through an analysis of their variants, with the aim of outlining both the trajectory of Calvino’s rewriting of Ariosto and the specific features of its outcomes. The appendix provides transcriptions of the episodes not included in either the libretto or the book (Rinaldo e Ginevra, Fiordispina e Ricciardetto and Magnanimità di Bradamante), while noting that these texts do not coincide with Calvino’s original version, which remains unknown owing to the variants introduced during broadcast.
