This paper presents an ethnographic project investigating the relationship between Ukrainian refugees and the Polish population. Ethnographic evidence indicates difficult relations between the two communities. Following Lotman, these problems will be interpreted as frictions among codes. The paper points out some risks and suggests several solutions based on the notion of model, used in simplifying translations between different regions of a semiosphere as well as in in the creation of information.

Abstract
