With his Unité d’Habitation project in Marseilles (1947-1952), Le Corbusier creates a characteristic tie between the sense of domestic privacy and the convenience of having numerous services annexed to the building which echo the pulsating life of the city. Today the theme introduced by Le Corbusier has become timely once again, as can be seen in a series of projects recently built, first and foremost the Market Hall opened in Rotterdam in October 2014, designed by the architectural firm MVRDV, which already in the past had taken its inspiration from the great twentieth-century master.

Abstract

With his Unité d’Habitation project in Marseilles (1947-1952), Le Corbusier creates a characteristic tie between the sense of domestic privacy and the convenience of having numerous services annexed to the building which echo the pulsating life of the city. Today the theme introduced by Le Corbusier has become timely once again, as can be seen in a series of projects recently built, first and foremost the Market Hall opened in Rotterdam in October 2014, designed by the architectural firm MVRDV, which already in the past had taken its inspiration from the great twentieth-century master.
