In the history of the relationship between art and television, a central chapter is represented by the television research of Francesco Vezzoli. His work is characterized by the conviction that tv itself deserves to be exhibited in galleries, as it is the reason and cause of society’s behaviors and styles. Vezzoli exposes the archive of television memory from 70thies to Social TV. Thanks to his exhibitory gesture – accomplished through montages, short films, fake productions and appropriations of other artists’ works, he musealizes the myths and rites disseminated by television. He showcases its being a good and “bad teacher.”

Abstract

In the history of the relationship between art and television, a central chapter is represented by the television research of Francesco Vezzoli. His work is characterized by the conviction that tv itself deserves to be exhibited in galleries, as it is the reason and cause of society’s behaviors and styles. Vezzoli exposes the archive of television memory from 70thies to Social TV. Thanks to his exhibitory gesture – accomplished through montages, short films, fake productions and appropriations of other artists’ works, he musealizes the myths and rites disseminated by television. He showcases its being a good and “bad teacher.”
