Following up on botanist Humboldt’s assumption that only an intact bond between man and nature – connected by knowledge and experience, empathy and emotion – can be the basis for a sustainable civilization (Wulf 2017), we can see how contemporary dramaturgy has proved itself to be particularly well suited to accepting and reinterpreting issues related to the Anthropocene. This essay will analyze different theatrical approaches, structurally associated by their hybrid dramaturgical formats, which confirm the theatrical hypermedium (Auslander 2008) as an effective means of dissemination and awareness of society. As a critical tool that through an embodied relationship and direct experience (Sofia 2015) – even when mediated – stimulates the spectator to reflect, the theatre of the Anthropocene is paradoxically represented by the non-human on stage. A non-anthropocentric and alternative vision/solution to the Anthropocene is offered to the spectator through a post-human theatre (Corvin 2014). The current debate on Anthropocene issues such as CO2 emissions and the atmosphere, ocean acidification and biodiversity loss (Granata 2016), as well as issues of law and justice, animal rights and nature are theatrically exposed through the chosen performances, as ‘narrative matter’.

Abstract
The current debate on Anthropocene issues such as CO2 emissions and the atmosphere, ocean acidification and biodiversity loss (Granata 2016), as well as issues of law and justice, animal rights and nature are theatrically exposed through the chosen performances, as ‘narrative matter’.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
