In this article Mara Logaldo analyses the diverse linguistic approaches that have been applied to the study of magazines, from discourse analysis and sociolinguistics to multimodal and text linguistics, appraisal theory, and corpus linguistics. Starting from some theoretical questions posed about the material and social features of the periodical, the study explores the different ways in which linguistics has tackled textual, contextual, and social practices, although remaining, until lately, a minor presence in periodical studies as such. While acknowledging methodological gaps, the article highlights the important contribution of linguistics to the study of magazines as well as the hazards of disciplinary fragmentation.

Abstract
In this article Mara Logaldo analyses the diverse linguistic approaches that have been applied to the study of magazines, from discourse analysis and sociolinguistics to multimodal and text linguistics, appraisal theory, and corpus linguistics. Starting from some theoretical questions posed about the material and social features of the periodical, the study explores the different ways in which linguistics has tackled textual, contextual, and social practices, although remaining, until lately, a minor presence in periodical studies as such. While acknowledging methodological gaps, the article highlights the important contribution of linguistics to the study of magazines as well as the hazards of disciplinary fragmentation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
