Published on the occasion of the exhibition "Ombre, trilogia" held at the National Archeological Museum of Naples in December 2000, the book presents Alain Volut's celebrated photographs of the castings of the inhabitants of Pompeii suprised by the eruption of the Vesuvius area, as well as those of the frescoes stored in the archives of the Museum, and his sculpture made of stones, wood, fossils, shells, bones and iron. The photographs are accompanied by texts by Bernard Noel and Arturo Carlo Quintavalle, a haiku and a poem by Valerio Magrelli.
