This study proposes an investigation into the presence of the fantastic in the novel Reeds in the Wind by the Nobel laureate Grazia Deledda, a writer apparently far from that genre. The analysis will highlight how the novel balances itself between the real world and the fantastic element, creating an enchanted atmosphere that captivates the reader in its magical aura. Thus, it will reveal traces of enchantment and mystery thanks to which the realistic note expands, blurring the contours of the concrete data. Deledda’s fantastic narrative wavers between the strange and the wonderful, creating a space where the character’s spirit wanders and enjoys a freedom similar to that which we have in dreams. Imagination and surreality transfigure environments and characters: the Pintor ladies, their servant Efix and the people of Galte live side by side with fairies, ghosts of barons, vampires, evil spirits, spirits of unbaptized children, dwarves, giants creep. Along with them, we find some elements of the Sardinian tradition: the ammattadore, i.e. the elf with seven caps, the Janas, very rich fairies that on feast days mingle with the people dancing, the panas, women who died in childbirth. Efix, the best-characterized character in the novel, embodies both the real world and the supernatural one: in him, the symbiosis between the laws of mystery and those of natural forces, between rationality and the unconscious, between man's archaic and magical mentality, is fully expressed.
Questo studio propone un'indagine sulla presenza del fantastico nel romanzo Canne al vento del premio Nobel Grazia Deledda, scrittrice apparentemente lontana da quel genere. L'analisi evidenzierà come il romanzo si equilibri tra il mondo reale e l'elemento fantastico, creando un'atmosfera incantata che affascina il lettore nella sua aura magica e rivelerà tracce di incanto e mistero grazie alle quali la nota realistica si espande, sfumando i contorni dei dati concreti. La narrativa fantastica di Deledda oscilla tra lo strano e il meraviglioso, creando uno spazio in cui lo spirito del personaggio vaga e gode di una libertà simile a quella dei sogni. Fantasia e surrealtà trasfigurano ambienti e personaggi: le dame Pintor, il loro servo Efix e il popolo di Galte convivono fianco a fianco con fate, fantasmi di baroni, vampiri, spiriti maligni, spiriti di bambini non battezzati, nani, giganti. Insieme a loro troviamo alcuni elementi della tradizione sarda: l’ammattadore, «il folletto con sette berretti», le Janas, fate molto ricche che nei giorni di festa si mescolano alla gente che danza, le panas, donne morte di parto. Efix, il personaggio meglio caratterizzato del romanzo, incarna sia il mondo reale che quello soprannaturale: in lui, la simbiosi tra le leggi del mistero e quelle delle forze naturali, tra razionalità e inconscio, tra mentalità arcaica e magica dell'uomo, è pienamente espresso.
