Two defixiones from the Iberian peninsula lend themselves to several observations in the field of proper bilingualism and its effects. The first comprises a bilingual text written in Greek and in Latin. This is an exceptional fact considering the “private” nature of this type of texts. Therefore, special attention is paid not only to the linguistic skills of the author and the receiver, but also to the question of “equivalence” in translation. The second suggests that the term “megare” may be a loanword from Greek “megale” (the change between l and r in this specific act is interpreted within the general perspective of weakening in certain syllabic environments).

Abstract
Two defixiones from the Iberian peninsula lend themselves to several observations in the field of proper bilingualism and its effects. The first comprises a bilingual text written in Greek and in Latin. This is an exceptional fact considering the “private” nature of this type of texts. Therefore, special attention is paid not only to the linguistic skills of the author and the receiver, but also to the question of “equivalence” in translation. The second suggests that the term “megare” may be a loanword from Greek “megale” (the change between l and r in this specific act is interpreted within the general perspective of weakening in certain syllabic environments).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
