The article analyses recent examples of Italian programmes of the factual genre dealing with fashion, both on the side of discursive practices and of the thematization of the fashion object. The analysis shows that the role of experts and learners brings to consider fashion as a negotiation of experience. Yet, the idea of fashion that emerges is one of a set of rule rather than a reappraisal of the individual competences, thus leading to a stereotypical canon to which audiences should confrom.
