The article considers the inertia that governs editorial practices in the area of referencing and establishing bibliographies. It suggests that in the internet age with the immediate availability online of all major literary texts from the past and most contemporary texts, a lot of the insistence on bibliographical detail has become a form of obsession that has no practical use. Many examples are provided.
