The article deals with contemporary fashion factual television, which shows ordinary people looking for a new style or concurring in a game. Starting from the analysis of current programs, the role of partecipants, experts and, more in general, television apparatus is discussed. A performative role of television emerges in the makeover shows, offering people a transformation, while fashion is presented as a Canon with rigid rules from the experts. So fashion appears to be in these programs more a codificated area that a personal appropriation of style.
