Historic and biographical reconstruction of various episodes, unknown even to Pound’s biographers, occurred during the Twenties/Thirities and Forties of the XX c. between Rapallo and Rome and all connected with Pound’s literary, cultural, ideological and “political” activity in his relationship with Francesco Monotti, an Italian journalist, writer, and important political figure belonging to the entourage of the Italian regime of that period. The research draws on unpublished archival materials (Beinecke Library/Yale, and Italian private archives) and on direct witness of the last protagonist of these events. The three episodes, all linked among them, deal with the troubled publication of _Guido Cavalcanti Rime_ (Genoa 1932), a much objected critical edition of the Stilnovistic poet; with the “diplomatic peace mission” of Italian emissaries in France (October 1935) inspired by Pound himself; and with the stormy last meeting of the poet at the American Consulate in Rome (Dec. 1941) whose negative outcome influenced Pound’s destiny during and after the war.
