Preliminary informations about the opera L’Angelo e il Golem by Francesco La Licata and Fabrizio Lupo and its production. Half-free relationship between music and libretto. Loose relationships between characters and voices. Only conceptual function of libretto: action guaranteed by music and other media, above all cinema. Characters function as symbols and archetypes, mainly of the perennial struggle between science/technology (male) and traditional wisdom (female), especially in respect of the creation of conscious life. Acknowledgement that man himself is at the same time matter and spirit (golem and angel). Tendentially non-linear temporality of the opera, except for significant cases. Multistylism, which finds unity in the mediation between popular traditions and contemporary academic music. Music symbolizes the simultaneous physical and metaphysical nature of man in several ways, but especially through the fact that it itself is at the same time immanence and transcendence.
