This paper investigates the phenomenon of enamel and mosaic icons spread. The former seem to prevail during the Comnenian age, while the latter, of small size and tiny pieces, show a peak during the Palaiologan period, but could go back to ancient times. The report intends to point out common elements between enamel and miniature mosaic icons: from a generic formal point of view to specific iconographical suggestions and anthropological implications.
