A comparative reading and textual analysis of the language and lexicon (in the continuous exchange between English and Italian), the literary sources (Dante Alighieri, Homer, Virgil, the Holy Writ, Futurism etc.), the historical, political and ideological context (second world war), and the critical writings on Dante of the two American poets, of two of the fundamental poetical works of T.S. Eliot and Ezra Pound in a crucial phase of their Art and Life. Eliot was in fact completing his final masterpiece (Four Quartets: 1936-1942) with Dante as guide and “exemplum”; Pound was on the verge of a radical and irrevocable change in the language of his “endless poem” from his native tongue to the language of his adoptive mother land (Italian), then abruptly interrupted by the events of May 1945 and the ensuing return to English in the Pisan Cantos (1945-48) up to the complete conclusion of his masterpiece in the late Sixties.

Lettura comparata ed analisi testuale dal punto di vista linguistico e lessicale (nel continuo scambio tra le lingue inglese ed italiana), delle fonti letterarie (Dante Alighieri, Omero, Virgilio, le sacre Scritture, il Futurismo ecc.), del contesto storico-politico-ideologico (anni Quaranta del Novecento), e degli scritti critici dei due autori americani su Dante, di due testi fondamentali della poesia di T.S. Eliot e di Ezra Pound in un momento cruciale della loro Arte e della loro Vita: Eliot ormai giunto al completamento del suo ultimo capolavoro (Four Quartets: 1936-1942) sotto la guida e l’ “exemplum” di Dante; Pound alla svolta (1944-45) che avrebbe potuto cambiare radicalmente il suo “endless poem” nel passaggio definitivo tra la sua lingua materna e quella del suo paese di adozione (l’italiano), bruscamente interrotto dagli eventi del Maggio 1945 e dal conseguente ritorno all’inglese nei Pisan Cantos (1945-48) e fino al completamento definitivo del suo capolavoro nei tardi Anni Sessanta.
