L'effimero e l'eterno: l'esperienza teatrale di Gibellina

The volume traces the story of Gibellina after the 1968 earthquake. Its ruins, covered by the Cretto di Burri (Burri’s Gash), are considered one of the most imposing European examples of Land Art. The reconstruction of Gibellina was inspired by the vision of Ludovico Corrao: to offer the town’s former inhabitants, ruined by the earthquake, a new reality to believe in, through art and theater. The first part of the book analyzes the elements that go into the realization of the urban landscape of Gibellina; the second analyzes all the performances produced in Gibellina from 1982 to 2011, from the celebrated Oresteia by Emilio Isgrò to the performances of Robert Wilson.

Il volume riperrcorre la storia di Gibellina dal terremoto del 1968 i cui ruderi, coperti dal Cretto di Burri, sono divenuti fra le più imponenti opere europee di Land Art. La ricostruzione di Gibellina prende vita dal sogno di Ludovico Corrao: offrire agli abitanti annichiliti dal terremoto una realtà nuova in cui credere attraverso l'arte e il teatro. Nella prima parte del volume sono analizzati gli elementi che concorrono alla realizzazione della scenografia urbana di Gibellina; nella seconda parte sono, invece, analizzati tutti gli spettacoli prodotti a Gibellina dal 1982 al 2011, dalla celebre Orestea di Emilio Isgrò alle performances di Robert Wilson.
