With Rara Avis, a succession of visionary bird-dresses and ‘avian’ accessories enlivens the interior of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, the Uccelliere Farnesiane, one of the most famous and symbolic places of Renaissance and Baroque Rome. The metaphorical image of the bird woman reflects the fluctuating status of the feminine within society through its associations with sexuality and purity, fragility and vice, death and rebirth. Authentic or ‘sustainable’, reproduced from time to time in a philological or fanciful manner, the feathers, along the course of the exhibition, abstract themselves from the distinctive features of the animal body, reassembling themselves on the human one. Thus, in a sort of fusion of humanity and animality, the pieces on display seem to allude to a transition of identity towards hybrid and fluid territories.
Con Rara Avis, una successione di visionari abiti-uccello e accessori ‘aviari, anima all’interno del Parco Archeologico del Colosseo, le Uccelliere Farnesiane, uno dei luoghi più famosi e simbolici della Roma rinascimentale e barocca. Nell’immagine metaforica della donna uccello si riflette lo status fluttuante del femminile all’interno della società per le sue associazioni con sessualità e purezza, fragilità e vizio, morte e rinascita. Autentiche o ‘sostenibili’ riprodotte di volta in volta in maniera filologica o fantasiosa le piume, lungo il percorso della mostra, si astraggono dai tratti distintivi del corpo animale ricomponendosi su quello umano. E’ così che, in una sorta di fusione tra umanità e animalità, i pezzi esposti paiono alludere a una transizione di identità verso territori ibridi e fluidi.
