Participatory digital exhibition “La montagna al femminile”. Geographical readings of the role of women in Alpine spaces between maps and photographs. For centuries, mountains and women have been placed in opposition against each other by virtue of stereotypes and prejudices. Historical sources show that women, albeit in the shadows, held key functions in rural mountain societies. Through cartography and photographs selected from public and private archives – brought together in the cartographic-photographic exhibition “La montagna al femminile” – the relationship between the presumed marginality of the Alpine territory and the strength of women in rural and entrepreneurial work, in the conquest of Alpine peaks and in the tourist enhancement of mountain areas is narrated. This contribution reflects on the use of images, recent and past, as a tool for understanding territorial construction and its social organisation (Cristaldi, 2017, p. 64). With the use of digital technologies, an extension of space from material to virtual has been possible, also thanks to the creation of maps that reinforce memory and contribute to modifying the discourse of the role of women in mountain territories in the past as in the present.

Abstract
64). With the use of digital technologies, an extension of space from material to virtual has been possible, also thanks to the creation of maps that reinforce memory and contribute to modifying the discourse of the role of women in mountain territories in the past as in the present.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
