“Uno strambo guardrail”: l’antica chiesa milanese di San Giovanni in Conca

This paper is dedicated to a well-known event: the demolition between 1948 and 1952 of the medieval church of San Giovanni in Conca in Milan. On the other hand, the debate that took place on the issue on the pages of the “Corriere della Sera” is not known. The complete analysis of the newspaper from 1945 to 1952 made it possible to verify the use of the press to safeguard the monument, at least its crypt, and to trace the hitherto unpublished project (and fortunately never realized) to transfer this underground environment to the Sforzesco Castle.

Questo contributo è dedicato a un evento ben noto: la demolizione tra il 1948 e il 1952 della chiesa medievale di San Giovanni in Conca a Milano. Non è invece noto il dibattito che si svolse in merito alla questione sulle pagine del “Corriere della Sera”. Lo spoglio completo del quotidiano dal 1945 al 1952 ha permesso di verificare l’impiego della stampa per salvaguardare il monumento, almeno la sua cripta, e di risalire al progetto finora inedito (e fortunatamente mai realizzato) di trasferire questo ambiente ipogeo al Castello Sforzesco.
