The essay try to reconstruct, through research among archival documents and publications, an idea of that attempted bridge between Italian and Latin American Catholics across the Atlantic. The goal is to understand what Italians were looking for in those distant lands and what Italy, the country that housed the Vatican city-state and the Chair of St. Peter, could represent for Latin American Catholics in a season of turbulence and effervescence that connotes the Long ’68. This path will help us, I hope, to understand the terms, and also the prospects, of that cultural revolution then in place.

Abstract

The essay try to reconstruct, through research among archival documents and publications, an idea of that attempted bridge between Italian and Latin American Catholics across the Atlantic. The goal is to understand what Italians were looking for in those distant lands and what Italy, the country that housed the Vatican city-state and the Chair of St. Peter, could represent for Latin American Catholics in a season of turbulence and effervescence that connotes the Long ’68. This path will help us, I hope, to understand the terms, and also the prospects, of that cultural revolution then in place.
