Translations done by eminent writers have always played an essential role in the innovation of European literary canons through the transfer and sharing of models and forms. These translations were often motivated by personal creative purposes and by a need for national literary innovation. This essay aims at offering at least one step towards the construction of a critical reflection on authorial translation as an essential element to be considered in the analysis of any national literature.

Abstract
