I valori, i bisogni, i sentimenti. I movimenti collettivi. Le istituzioni. Le élite e le masse. Poteri e capi carismatici. Società e società. Etnocentrismo e relativismo culturale. Locale e globale. Immigrazione. Responsabilità e commercio equo.

Abstract
The underlying theme of this study is made up of a series of phenomena and behaviour patterns found in today’s society. A series of tesserae gathered from apparently heterogeneous fields, but which, when put together, should help us to create the great mosaic of society. The different topics covered and the structured analysis of the main principles are the result of the authors’ theoretical and empirical in-depth studies also based on the contributions of a selection of some of the most important scholars from the past and present. The main theme running through the study is the path leading gradually from “small”, i.e. the single unit of the individual person, to “large”, the planetary society of a globalised world. In greater detail, the following are analysed: Sociologies: i.e. the different perspectives of sociology and its relationship with other related disciplines. People. Universal elements, social influences and individual characters in human actions. Values, needs, feelings. People and the extension of self. People and people, social actors and various methods of non-verbal communication. Bonds between people: both emotional bonds and work bonds. Gifts, economic exchange. Disparities. Ideologies. People and society. Socialisation processes. Forms of social control. Conformism, deviances, sanctions. Stigmatisation. Society and people. The different forms of social stratification. Social mobility and consumer goods. Society. Collective movements. Institutions. The élite and the masses. Power and charismatic leaders. Society and society. Ethnocentrism and cultural relativism. Local and global. Immigration.
