My study looks at travelling and the role it plays in the love life of a couple at each stage of life. It is actually during journeys and holidays that people not only put themselves to the test, but are also more willing than in everyday life to meet new people, form new friendships, fall in love and establish relationships. Why does this happen? What mechanisms of the human mind, what emotions and sentiments are set in motion while travelling? So, for each stage of life and for each type of relationship, tour operators offer special packages: for the young and single, for the elderly and single, for gay people, and so on, where they focus on those elements which will favour encounters. But what are these elements? Then we have honeymoons, which no longer represent a rite of passage from life in the parental home to a new life in the couple’s new home, and neither are they a sort of trial run for living together, in that many couples are already doing so. Nevertheless, honeymoons continue to be highly meaningful for a couple and are chosen with care from the most attractive offers. Finally, couples living together, what importance do they give to travelling? Does it serve to mend ties which have often become weak because of a daily routine that is either too frenetic or boring, or does a break in routine represent a chance to question yourself and your relationship with your partner? Using the results of a variety of studies on these topics, we will try and find some answers to the questions above.
