The day after the complete dispersion of the Stroganoff collection, in the twenties of the twentieth century, Roberto Longhi, under the pseudonym of Bortolo Ghiner, published articles in journals "Dedalo" and "Vita Artistica". The main target of those writings are the 'competent authority' that granted permission to export some objects of art belonged to the famous Russian count. These articles are often cited when one considers the dismemberment of that collection, but no one has ever dealt with the debate that, as a result of criticism of Longhi/Ghiner, took place on the pages of "Vita Artistica," an important voice for those years in panorama of history of art and art criticism, the protection and enhancement of heritage, sensitive also to contemporary themes. This article, in fact, traces the debate, stressing the role played by the journal and the biting words of Longhi/Ghiner bringing to public attention the pressing problems such as the protection, understanding the value of the so-called minor arts, training of officials state, attribution.
