In this paper, I investigated the fortune of the famous Byzantine manuscript Vat. gr. 1613 (known as the 'Menologium of Basil II') in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, or rather its accompanying figuration. A manuscript so full of images (430 miniatures) had obviously caught the attention of the public and scholarly interest in the Eastern Church and its rites in the seventeenth century, becoming aims of eighteenth-century publishing enterprises, and, finally, at the end of this century, it had also raised a genuine art-historical interest, coinciding with the birth of modern art historiography.

Abstract
In this paper, I investigated the fortune of the famous Byzantine manuscript Vat. gr. 1613 (known as the 'Menologium of Basil II') in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, or rather its accompanying figuration. A manuscript so full of images (430 miniatures) had obviously caught the attention of the public and scholarly interest in the Eastern Church and its rites in the seventeenth century, becoming aims of eighteenth-century publishing enterprises, and, finally, at the end of this century, it had also raised a genuine art-historical interest, coinciding with the birth of modern art historiography.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
