Abstract

Today the deep relationship between “literary expression” and “cultural location” expresses itself through interculturality. This makes the issue concerning migration flows, and the related concepts of “migration” and “renewal”, a basic one. The crisis of national identity paves the way to the emergence of new instances: the creation of supranational shared institutions; the increase of local governments; the definition of new decision-making contexts. Culture played a primary role in the process of formation of nations; the great literary traditions formed the basis for the construction of a common consciousness. Yet, despite the definition of shared identity, this process was different in different contexts. Gadamer’s claim, that the European roots are based on a Greek-roman matrix, collides today with the difficulty in speaking a language that reflects actual diversities of views, and leaves open the question about the future of Europe.
