The novel La verità sul caso Motta by Mario Soldati is based on a true story but it lands on something strange and disturbing. It seems that the author suggests the idea that a univocal truth does not exist and that the power of reason is not able to cure the evil of the world. By starting from this assumption, I will analyse the subgenres in the novel by Soldati: the fantastic-mythical one, the erotic-social one and the various narrative techniques. Soldati recurs to themes of the literary tradition, to the criticism, to the rhetoric and to the rigid conformism of his time, to the manipulation of genres and to the pleasure of pastiche in order to create a narration between real and fantastic
