The chapter deals with contemporary forms of seriality in the area of factual television, where real stories are presented. Starting from the analysis of actual programs, the chapter shows how, mixing observational documentary with reality programming, these programs present "true stories" in an edited form that uses fictional devices to develop a narrative form. So seriality seems to concern not only traditional fiction but also the area of "truth", and narrative form appears to be a more general television dimension, declined in various genres.

Abstract

The chapter deals with contemporary forms of seriality in the area of factual television, where real stories are presented. Starting from the analysis of actual programs, the chapter shows how, mixing observational documentary with reality programming, these programs present "true stories" in an edited form that uses fictional devices to develop a narrative form. So seriality seems to concern not only traditional fiction but also the area of "truth", and narrative form appears to be a more general television dimension, declined in various genres.
